50 Shades of Grey Sales Approaching 20MM in Only 4 Months

What do you get when you take a self-published book that is not well written about a topic that is not for everyone, apparently 20MM dollars in sales. Publisher Random House has confirmed sales of 19.4MM as of 2nd July, split evenly across print and e-book editions, with the total across all English language markets now put at 31m copies. Sales of the Fifty Shades trilogy have passed 19m in the US since publication in March. Print sales in the UK are thought to be approaching 5m, with e-book numbers similar, with latest Nielsen BookScan figures due tomorrow (10th July).

What are your thoughts on the book and it's success?
