Why can't traditional publishers and digital publishers get along?

If you happen to read any of the technology related websites or magazines, you have surely come across articles like this one "E-book market forecast to hit $5.2B as the book industry burns" in the last year or so. Well, I understand that anyone in technology has an agenda to push their medium, but numbers don't lie, and as some other publications have pointed out that the traditional publishing companies have  actually had increases due to digital publishing.

So even though my company BP Wiz is technology related, I am still a believer in numbers and I personally don't feel that one medium has to die in order for another to succeed.

Edan Lepucki, a Writer from The Millions, recently published an article "Reasons Not to Self-Publish in 2011-2012: A List" which points out some really good reasons to stick with traditional publishing, it is worth a read.

I would love to hear everyones take on this.
